Jim Edmonds Donates Plasma After Testing Positive for Coronavirus
The RHOC alum asked his doctor if there was "anything he could do to help."
After recovering from coronavirus (COVID-19), Jim Edmonds has donated his plasma at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis on May 4, about a a month after the former MLB pro tested positive for COVID-19.
“After Jim got well he asked his doctor if there was anything he could do to help and his doctor suggested he donate antibodies to help people who had serious cases of the virus,” Jim's rep Steve Honig told Page Six about how Jim is giving back following his experience with COVID-19. The outlet further reports that Jim is currently self-quarantining in Missouri with his new girlfriend, Kortnie O’Connor, following his split several months ago from The Real Housewives of Orange County alum Meghan King Edmonds.
Last month, Andy Cohen, who has also recovered from coronavirus, spoke out and is calling for a change in the FDA's guidelines on blood donations amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
"After recovering from coronavirus, I wanted to see if there was something I could do to help people who were infected. I signed up for a program for COVID-19 survivors where you could donate plasma, which is rich in antibodies, to those still battling the virus," Andy said during his "Moment of Mazel" in the April 23 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home. "I was told due to antiquated and discriminatory guidelines by the FDA to prevent HIV, I am ineligible to donate blood because I'm a gay man."
