Joyce Giraud Dishes on Her Beauty Pageant
The new Beverly Hills Housewife reveals how she's revolutionizing contests.
When Joyce Giraud de Ohoven walked into Kyle Richards's party on the season premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, all eyes were on her. Why? The gorgeous Latina is a former Miss Puerto Rico and a runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant. Now the actress and model is giving back to the platform she says launched her career with a pageant of her own.
"I changed everything that I thought was wrong with the other pageants," she tells Latina.com of her inclusive event. Dubbed the Queen of the Universe pageant, the annual spectacle is now in its second year. "Girls can be single or divorced. I don’t judge them based on gender choices or whether or not they had a child at a young age. The only requirement is that they have to have a charity platform." The pageant itself is put on to benefit UNESCO.
The altruistic beauty queen also talks about her two multilingual kids, who speak Spanish and English fluently though not her husband's native language, German. "That's my husband's fault," she says. "He speaks to them a little bit, but he doesn’t have the patience. It’s a very disciplined thing...They speak perfect Spanish and English, and I will take 100% credit for it!"
Joyce was also recently on Today, where she admitted that her preconceived notions of her fellow Housewives didn't pan out like she thought. "In some cases, I was pleasantly surprised that I was wrong," she said. "In other cases, I was saddened by the fact that the girls I thought would be great actually were not.”
Who ends up clashing with Joyce? You'll have to tune in to the new season, airing Mondays at 8/7c, to find out.
