After Being Let Go on Below Deck Med, June Foster Got an Awe-Inspiring Job

"I quickly moved on after Below Deck and I am so happy where I am now," June Foster said.

By Laura Rosenfeld

The latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean ended with a surprising departure. After Anastasia Surmava stepped down from her position as chef to resume her role as third stew, Captain Sandy Yawn was left with no choice but to let June Foster, her replacement in the interior, go.

How to Watch

June's position had become redundant, in the words of Captain Sandy. "This is not personal. You're an amazing human being," she told June during the episode. "This is about I don't have enough room to keep you, otherwise I would."

June was visibly upset when she got the news, and she was emotional while discussing her exit during an interview in the episode. "You don't do that to people. It's wrong," she said. "You know, especially somebody who came and helped when you needed help."

But soon enough, June picked herself up, dusted herself off, and got a pretty incredible gig. "I am here on a 1930's sailboat on the coast if [sic] Ischia volunteering as an assistant [researcher] for the next four weeks. We listen for whales and dolphins through the hydrophones and record the data," June shared in her recent Instagram Story. "I have already learned so much and thank God for my deck experience."

June also said that she doesn't harbor any ill will toward Captain Sandy or anyone else in the Below Deck Med crew. "Thank you everyone for all the love and support these couple days," she wrote. "I quickly moved on after Below Deck and I am so happy where I am now. All [is] forgiven and life moves on."

Since Below Deck Med, June also published her first novel The Girl and the Golden Leaf. She also uses her writing to support a variety of conservation and children's non-profit organizations, for which she also volunteers and fundraises, according to her bio on her website, which also lists yoga instructor as one of her many occupations.

Captain Sandy wished June all the best while reflecting on her departure from Below Deck Med earlier this week. "Thank you June for a great job, and I so appreciate you coming on board," she tweeted. "I hope you continue your maritime career as well as following your dreams of traveling. You have a bright future."

Anastasia also showed her support for June on Twitter after Monday night's episode. "Grateful for June and what she did for our team. I feel real s--t about how things went down," she said. "Love for June."
