Kandi Burruss Addresses Why She Discussed Riley's Dad on RHOA
The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member shares what's next for her family.
During The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 13 premiere, Kandi Burruss and her daughter, Riley Burruss, opened up about where things stand between the teen and her dad, Russell "Block" Spencer. During the conversation featured in the episode, Kandi and Riley each addressed the fact that he allegedly owes Kandi child support, and Riley felt he should contribute to her college education at NYU.
"OK, well, I feel like my father never really did anything. It's time for him to at least provide something when I'm going away to college," Riley said in the December 6 episode.
Now Kandi is addressing that conversation and where things stand with her ex on her YouTube show, Speak on It, where she reflected on the RHOA Season 13 premiere. Kandi explained, in part, that she felt comfortable talking about this on the show this season because Block had previously appeared on RHOA.
Kandi said on her YouTube show that "stuff had been piling up for years and years and years," and before the pandemic happened, she and her daughter had a conversation about filing for child support as Riley embarked on her college education. So as everything "shut down for COVID[-19]," it caused the filing to be delayed. So when the new season was filming, "it just so happened that this is what was happening."
Kandi noted that she sees the conversation now as "an oversharing moment," but admitted, "I'm sure there is a lot of people that go through this situation who choose to deal with it or not, so there are gonna be people who relate to that. It is a touchy subject. Riley, obviously, is very expressive of her feelings."
As for where it all stands today, Kandi said that the situation remains mostly unchanged and that she is "still dealing with it."
