Karen Huger Responds to the RHOP Cast's Shade About Her Butterfly Invitations with Even More Shade

The RHOP grande dame has an explanation for why the butterflies were so low energy upon delivery.

By Laura Rosenfeld

As The Real Housewives of Potomac couples' trip to Maryland's Eastern Shore came to a close, Karen Huger gave the group a head's up to open the invitation to her and husband Ray Huger's vow renewal outdoors. And when the invites arrived later in the October 24 episode of RHOP, everyone was definitely glad to have heeded Karen's advice.

It turned out that the invitation came with a box filled with live butterflies, which seemed to give the RHOP ladies and their families quite the surprise when they opened them at their homes. The butterflies also didn't look exactly how the invitation recipients were expecting, with many commenting that the insects looked like moths or appeared to be dead.

Karen defended her buzzy invitation during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on October 24 (clip below). "No, it wasn't death, let me tell you," Karen said in response to her fellow WWHL guest, actress Leslie Grossman, also commenting on the state of the butterflies in the episode. "Because they actually had to be kept at a low temperature, so they were sleeping. They were sleeping. They weren't dead; they were just sleeping."

Host Andy Cohen then noted, "I mean, that's what you tell a little kid," in regards to when an animal dies. To that, Karen threw a little bit of fun shade the RHOP ladies' way: "Those were little kids who received it though."

In addition to the invitation failing to impress the Potomac Housewives, Karen revealed that Ray actually wasn't that into the grande dame's grand gesture for their vow renewal, either.

"Let me be very clear. My husband was totally against me having you all set the butterflies free. He did not want them in the box, but he knows, you know, I wanted something special. I love it, and I just envisioned butterflies flowing, you know, just fluttering," Karen explained during The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show, which you can view, above. "I love doing things for effect, let me just say that. And so, good, bad, or indifferent, I knew it was an elegant thought. It was my vow renewal with Ray, and I wanted that memory."

All in all, Karen said that she was pleased with how the invites turned out. "And so, it was a beautiful box, and we took care to take care of each and every butterfly. So, I have not heard that anything happened, you know, tragically," she said in the RHOP After Show. "But would I do it again? Probably."

However, Karen's friends would beg to differ. Press play on the above video to see more of how the Potomac Housewives really felt about Karen's butterfly invitations. And trust us, they do not hold back one bit.
