How Katie Maloney's "Push[ing] Through" Her First Post-Divorce Holiday Season
The Vanderpump Rules cast member got real about celebrating the holidays without ex Tom Schwartz.
The holiday season looks a lot different for Katie Maloney this year.
She opened up on the matter on the latest episode of her You're Gonna Love Me podcast, explaining that she's been "preparing" for the next few weeks to be "a little rough on the heart on the soul."
"It's my first holiday season, first Christmas post-divorce," Katie continued, referencing her recent divorce from ex and fellow Vanderpump Rules cast member Tom Schwartz. "It's gonna sting. It does sting. You can't really prepare — only so much, I guess."
After all, it's been more than a decade — 12 years, Katie noted — since she celebrated the holidays without Tom. As such, she's "just trying to feel my way through it."
That doesn't come without difficult moments, though. Describing one particularly emotional experience, Katie said, "I went and got the decorations and as I was unboxing it, I came across some ornaments that my mom had gotten us. One was like a little bride and groom that said, 'Our first Christmas,' like after getting married. And another was a front door that said, 'First Christmas in Our Own Home,' and then one was like 'The Schwartz Family' with Tom and I and the dogs."
"I just started crying," Katie continued. "It was just hard to see those things and think, 'I can't put those on the tree.' I mean I could, but why?"
"It's just things like that you kind of go, 'Wow this is kinda s--ty,'" she concluded. "But you just gotta push through, I guess."
