Here's Why Kenya Moore Got So Fed up with Producers' Questions About Cynthia Bailey's Wine
"Should I say it louder for the people in the back?" The Real Housewives of Atlanta mom said.
Kenya Moore is a self-proclaimed shade assassin, and it looked like Cynthia Bailey was her target as the ladies lunched in the March 15 episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
As the Georgia Peaches dined in the air, Kenya seemed to really be testing Cynthia on her vino knowledge after she opened the Bailey Wine Cellar earlier this season, which some other members of the RHOA crew took to be a major read. "Kenya is basically making it look like Cynthia knows nothing about the wine industry, which could be tarnishing Cynthia's brand," Porsha Williams said during an interview in the episode.
In another interview in the episode, one of the show's producers asked Kenya, "You flipped out on Tanya [Sam] for saying you wear a wig. Why are you pressing Cynthia so hard about her wine knowledge so publicly?"
"That's totally different things," Kenya said in response. "First of all, when my hair... Anyway, I don't have to re-explain it. F--k it. Think whatever you want to think. I don't care. It's not the same thing. Whoever's writing these questions, I'm gonna walk away if this is what we're gonna make this about."
Kenya continued, "I was having fun with my sis. She should know what the wines are about. And if she didn't we could teach her. So what?"
A fan asked Kenya on Twitter during the episode why she thought the producer's question "was strange" and how she couldn't "see the parallel" between what Tanya did to her and what she did to Cynthia. "Let me help you out...Cynthia is a RETAILER not a sommelier. I am a Founder and CEO of a hair care company. I MUST know about my industry," Kenya tweeted in response. "Should I say it louder for the people in the back?"
Kenya said during The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 After Show, above, that she was just "drinking and laughing and having fun" with Cynthia, who she said was also laughing during their lunch. She said that Cynthia wasn't bothered by her comments until "we left and then people got in her ear."
Cynthia admitted during the After Show that she's not the biggest wine expert. "Hey, I don't know everything about wine. I knew I wanted to open up a wine shop. I respect the culture, the history. I think it's a great business. It's grown, it's sexy. I decided to do it, so I did," she explained. "I'm not going to look for shade from my friends. My radar is not up for my friends; my radar is up around my enemies. That's where I'm expecting a s--tstorm."
The RHOA model also noted that Kenya didn't know everything about haircare products prior to launching her company. "I don't think she was a hairologist until she decided to start Kenya Moore Haircare, you know what I mean?" Cynthia said. "She has long, beautiful hair."
Though Kenya owned coming for Marlo Hampton's wig line when she crashed her party with a marching band earlier this season, she said during the After Show that she has "always supported Cynthia's businesses." "Everyone who owns a business, you should know about the business, but you don't have to be an aficionado when it comes to like a retail situation," Kenya said. "She can pay people to have knowledge of wine."
