Cynthia Bailey Declares Who Was in the Wrong in Nene Leakes and Kenya Moore's Greece Drama
The Real Housewives of Atlanta model is coming to the defense of one of the Georgia Peaches.
Nene Leakes and Kenya Moore were so close and yet so far from achieving a moment of peace during The Real Housewives of Atlanta girls' trip to Greece.
With more than 20 years with husband Gregg Leakes, Nene thought it would be a good idea to sit down and have a heart-to-heart with Kenya amid her marital strife with Marc Daly during the ladies' vacation. However, when Cynthia Bailey invited Nene and Kenya to sit down together "in fellowship" after their first dinner in Greece, Kenya declined the offer. When it seemed like Kenya was going to try to smooth things over with Nene over dessert, it was too late, and Nene was having none of it.
Being caught in the middle of Nene and Kenya's drama is a familiar place for Cynthia. However, the RHOA model didn't shy away from taking sides in this situation during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on March 9 (clip below).
"I will say in Nene's defense, she really tried to be kind to Kenya in that moment. She really, truly did, and Kandi [Burruss] and I had a whole thing with the ladies about like, 'Please show compassion to Kenya. You guys might not be in the best place.' But this had just happened, and she was really in a lot of pain," Cynthia recalled. "So once we had that talk and everybody kind of agreed to be OK, for it to go to the left was like, 'Come on, Kenya, can you just let Nene be nice to you?'"
During The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 After Show, Nene said that she was going to put her issues with Kenya aside to help support her during this difficult time. "You never want to see a family break up. You just don't. It's always sad," Nene shared in the above clip. "I'm never mad with you to the point where I hope your marriage breaks up."
Kenya said during the After Show that she wasn't picking up that positive energy from Nene. "Well, here's the thing that you guys don't see. She was never looking in my direction, and she was constantly trying to take the attention off of whatever I was saying to what she was saying," Kenya explained. "I pick up on everything. One thing about me, I read a room, and I see everything that's going on. I could just tell she is not sincere in being there."
Kenya also explained that it wasn't that she didn't want to speak to Nene; she just didn't want to speak to her at that moment. "When Cynthia left for us to speak, I thought, you know what, I was just vulnerable, I was just speaking to these girls about my situation, and here it is, the person I have the biggest issue with is who I felt like was being shady at the table already is now trying to talk to me one-on-one, and I didn't want to open those can of worms and then us debating who's right and who's wrong," she shared in the After Show. "I just could see steps and steps and steps of us just going down a blackhole and it being bad. I was just like, let's just leave it here being positive. We'll speak another time. This is just not the right time."
She continued, "And I think that was reasonable because I didn't want to make it about me and Nene at that point. Not on the first night. Let's just give me a minute to grieve and have some fun, and when the time is right, let's talk. But the first night and sitting there and seeing how she was behaving at the table, I just was not feeling it, and I have a right to feel that way."
However, Nene offered up another theory as to why Kenya didn't accept her olive branch that night. "She wasn't receptive. She didn't receive it at all. She just didn't," Nene said in the After Show. "Because it's good to be fighting with Nene."
Nene opened up more about the moment on Twitter on March 9, claiming that Kenya "was NEVER sensitive" to other couples on RHOA, including Porsha Williams and Kordell Stewart, Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida, and Tanya Sam and Paul Judge.
Nene also said that she doesn't "owe" Kenya anything. "I don’t want to hear NOTHING from NOBODY concerning Ken. She sits, talks and thanks some who has done wayyyyy more worst to her than I ever have!" she tweeted. "I personally think her friends need to keep it 100 wit her."
