Lala Kent Clears Up a Major Misconception About Her First Season of Vanderpump Rules

The Vanderpump Rules cast member is hoping to "break free" from certain labels in her new book, Give Them Lala.

Lala Kent First Season Vanderpump Rules

We first met Lala Kent as SUR's newest hostess in Season 4 of Vanderpump Rules. One of Lala's earliest moments on the show was when she told Lisa Vanderpump and the restaurant's manager, Diana, that she needed the weekend off for a modeling job in Italy.

When word got around about Lala's time off, some of her co-workers didn't believe that was the real reason for her jetting off to Europe. When confronted about this, Lala revealed that she wasn't traveling for work but for fun, something that she purposely kept from her boss and later admitted to Lisa, noting that she ended up not going on the trip, after all. Rather, she flew home to Utah to spend time with her mom.

This is just one of the unforgettable Vanderpump Rules moments Lala revisits in her new book, Give Them Lala, available now. And it's one that's really indicative of the kind of person that Lala sees herself as, someone who's down-to-earth and puts family first, which she hopes people will get more of a sense of while listening to the audiobook of her new collection of essays.

"I think the thing people would be most shocked to learn in this audiobook is that I come from a very normal family, and we were heavy with the spirituality and the togetherness. And on the show, I come off as this person who's, like, private jets and yachts," Lala said in a Q&A about her audiobook shared exclusively with The Daily Dish. "And to be honest, one of the trips that I talk about in this, I've never been flown anywhere to go on vacation on yachts. That was the first time ever when I asked Lisa Vanderpump to allow me time off from work to travel. It was the first time I'd ever been invited and that I was going to go, and it didn't work out. So, I don't think I was meant to have that lifestyle."

Lala, who reads the audiobook version of her memoir, said that she felt inspired to give greater insight into her life beyond what we see in the public eye. "So, this book was kind of for me to explain how it really happened, and it's my release, you know," she shared. "It's my release of all of these things I've been kind of suppressed by. These 'home-wrecking whore' labels and 'gold digging whore' and just these things that I kind of wanted to break free from, and people have also related to that."

Not only has working on Give Them Lala been a cathartic experience for the Vanderpump Rules cast member, but she also hopes her audiobook has a positive impact on listeners. "What I hope listeners take away from this audiobook is to forgive yourself because there's nothing worse than living under the cloud of guilt and shame of things that you may have done or how you reacted," Lala said. "And to love yourself. I know it sounds so corny and so simple, but it really is what so many of us are lacking. We have to be kinder to ourselves."

Lala is giving you it all in her debut book. From her upbringing in Utah to her journey with sobriety to becoming a mom, the Vanderpump Rules cast member doesn't hold anything back in Give Them Lala, which also offers readers advice on how to be their best selves.

And Lala is certainly living her best life these days. She welcomed her first child, daughter Ocean, with fiancé Randall Emmett in March. Lala is also set to return for the upcoming Season 9 of Vanderpump Rules, which will resume production this month.
