Leah McSweeney's Grandmother Has Passed Away: "We Will Celebrate You Forever"
"Knowing you were proud of me is my greatest accomplishment thus far," the RHONY cast member shared.
Leah McSweeney is mourning the loss of her grandmother.
The Real Housewives of New York City cast member shared the sad news in a post on Instagram on October 27. The post featured a collection of photos of Leah and her grandmother with other loved ones throughout the years, including Leah's daughter, Kier, her sister, Sarah McSweeney, and her mother, Bunny McSweeney. "I still can’t wrap my head around the concept of you being gone," Leah wrote. "I may never be able to."
Leah went on to open up about how much her grandmother meant to her throughout her life. "My Queen. You understood me in a way that most of the adults in my life never could. You were an open book of wisdom who didn’t hold back when sharing your experiences and feelings. You helped me reconcile and understand the most deeply baffling issues I grappled with from addiction to relationships to motherhood," Leah wrote. "You were an anchor for the entire family no matter how rough the sea. You loved each of your 14 grandkids unconditionally the way only a grandmother could."
It turns out Leah's grandmother was always up on the latest pop culture, including her granddaughter's RHONY debut in Season 12. "Your knowledge of pop culture always impressed me. And when you asked me 'what’s the tea?' I would always spill it," Leah recalled. "I can’t even fathom not being able to pick up the phone and call you and hear your sweet raspy angel voice 'hi leah how are you?' I saved your voicemails though so I can still listen. I’m going to miss your Thursday night texts when you would break down each RHONY episode."
In fact, Leah's grandmother was supportive of all of her endeavors. "Knowing you were proud of me is my greatest accomplishment thus far," Leah shared. "You respected me as a business woman even when I felt like I had failed. But you helped me feel accomplished and you were the one who would call me and tell me the things I needed to hear."
Leah concluded the post by expressing how grateful she and the rest of her family are for having someone as special as her grandmother in their lives.
"The end of life conversations we had are going to live in my soul forever. I know you would want us to not be sad but it’s impossible not to be. I feel so grateful you got to see me as a mother, be a great grandma to Kiki and lived to see me get sober again. I promise to keep making you proud and to not be so hard on Bunny," Leah wrote. "Thank you for being the matriarch to our family. We will celebrate you forever but make no mistake there is a gaping hole that will be impossible to fill in every one of our hearts. I miss you so much grandma."
