How Did Lisa Vanderpump's SUR Restaurant Get Its Sexy, Unique Name?
Find out the origins of #PumpRules' famed eatery.
There are very few places in Los Angeles as sexy and unique as Lisa Vanderpump's West Hollywood restaurant, SUR. Now, we say that because the letters just so happen to be an acronym for just that: Sexy Unique Restaurant — but we'll let the Vanderpump Rules boss explain.
"A lot of people have asked me, you know, what the name SUR means," she told The Daily Dish. "It had its name before I actually got involved with it when it was just very, very tiny restaurant. And it's Spanish for South."
But being that Lisa has a knack for making everything more fab, she fancied up the restaurant's moniker after she and husband Ken Todd joined forces with fellow couple, Guillermo Zapata and his wife Nathalie Pouille-Zapata, as co-owners of the eatery back in 2005. "We kind of ended up putting on the wall, 'Sexy Unique Restaurant'," she added.
Longtime SURver Scheana Shay didn't care what the name meant, she just knew that it was the hipper of Lisa's establishments and that she wanted to be there. "I didn't know anything about that," Scheana told The Daily Dish. "I knew SUR was the cooler Villa Blanca. Everyone wanted to work at SUR."
Former SURver Kristen Doute applauded Lisa's keen sense of style for making the spot as hot as it is today. "It has to be a Lisa thing. She renovated the entire place. It's all her decor. It's her interior design. She's brilliant at what she does," she said. "She named her house Villa Rosa, so of course she would say it's a sexy, unique restaurant." -Additional reporting by Laura Rosenfeld and Sasha Flamm
