Selena Gomez Would Make an Excellent Fictional Meghan Markle, Says The Crown's Matt Smith
His co-star Claire Foy has other ideas, however.
The Crown's Matt Smith said recently that Meghan Markle's life as she knew it is gone now that she's engaged to Prince Harry.
"I feel sorry for her," he told attendees of a talk at New York City's 92nd Street Y. "It's such a transition in her life, and it's such a huge thing to take on. Life as she knows it is gone. But hey, she's marrying the prince of Britain — how exciting for her."
His rather dark spin on the forthcoming royal wedding hasn't prevented him from having a little fun and thinking about who could play Meghan and Harry on The Crown when he and co-star Claire Foy hit the Bravo Clubhouse for Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
"It's probably not going to happen for another five years, so we'd probably have to choose someone who is about 11 or 12," she reckoned.
"Who's that singer who goes out with Justin Bieber?" he asked.
"Selena Gomez?" ventured Andy Cohen.
"She's playing Meghan Markle!" he exclaimed, to Claire's protests: "You love Selena Gomez!"
Watch the clip to find out the identity of the singer who they're suggesting portray Prince Harry. Hint: It's not Justin Bieber.
