This Video of Mercedes "MJ" Javid Teaching Baby Shams Farsi Is So Adorable
The Shahs of Sunset mom explained what she's doing to make sure the 1-year-old is "learning his mother tongue."
Mercedes “MJ” Javid’s son, Shams Francis Feight, is growing up! The Shahs of Sunset baby, who turned 1 year old in April, is starting to speak. And according to MJ, that means he’s currently learning two languages.
The proud mom shared an adorable video of Shams beginning to speak in a June 7 Instagram post. “Learning his mother tongue, #Farsi,” MJ captioned the clip. Although the sweet little boy, who was named after MJ’s father, is still learning, he’s apparently already far ahead of one Shahs of Sunset cast member when it comes to being bilingual.
“He officially speaks better Farsi than me,” Nema Vand commented, adding the crying emoji.
In the comments section, one follower noted that she is currently raising a 10-month-old who is learning both English and Spanish. She asked if MJ was speaking Farsi and English to Shams, but MJ revealed that she is using a different technique.
“Our pediatrician said that if I want to teach him Farsi, that I should speak to him exclusively in Farsi and Tommy in English,” MJ explained. “This is his recommendation because he said that speaking both languages at the same time might cause delayed speaking.”
In case you are wondering what that means for Tommy, who is not fluent in Farsi, MJ explained that she still speaks both languages at home. When one follower asked, “Question, do you both speak languages equally to learn both? Or do you speak Farsi and Dad English?” MJ replied, “Per our pediatrician, the latter. Tommy English, and me Farsi, but obviously since I communicate to Tommy in English, Shams hears both from me.”
