Michael Strahan Clears the Air About His LIVE Exit
Kelly Ripa's co-host opens up about leaving the show for #GMA.
Whichever side you land on in the LIVE drama, Michael Strahan insists that "everyone got the wrong impression" about his imminent exit from the show. The comment comes after the April 19 announcement that Michael would be leaving LIVE for a full-time role at Good Morning America after co-hosting alongside Kelly Ripa for four years. "Every week is great, every day is great for me. I'm on the other side of the dirt," Michael told Entertainment Tonight Monday at the 2016 Met Gala in New York. "Yeah I'm looking forward to [moving to Good Morning America full time], but I'm still looking forward to going to work for Live... I love being there. I still love it. It's a great show, great people, and I'm very fortunate to be a part of it."
Since news of his exit, and the confirmation that his last show will be May 13, Michael and Kelly have made daily headlines. So, what does the soon-to-be former co-host think of all the attention? "I think the more I talk about it the more it becomes a news story and I don't understand why, neither one of us understands why," he said. "But it is what it is."
With Michael less than two weeks away from leaving the show, auditions for a new co-host will begin shortly thereafter. Below, Anderson Cooper weighs in on whether he'd ever consider taking the job.
