Rashida Jones Turned to Porsha Williams as Inspiration for Her Latest Role
The #RHOA radio host is quite "charming" according to the actress.
If you tuned into Black-ish this week and felt like Rashida Jones' reality TV-star character, Santamonica, felt familiar, well there was a reason for that. The character, who is Bow's (Tracee Ellis Ross) sister, was inspired by none other than Porsha Williams.
"I'm a big fan of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and I really like Porsha. I find her really charming, so I was trying to just channel my own excitement for where my life has taken me," Rashida recently told USA Today. "The truth is — and that's the message of the episode — that Santamonica has her own mission, and ultimately, Rainbow can't judge that. That's what she wanted for her life, and they can connect in other places. I think anyone who has siblings will feel some sort of connection to that."
So how did Rashida's latest small-screen persona come into existence? She explained, "[Series creator Kenya Barris] and I came up with it together. Within the scope of their family, it felt like a good contrast to to have someone whose ambition looked completely different," she said. "[Santamonica] made me laugh really hard. It's definitely one of the funnier names I've ever heard."
