Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker have been together for a long time. While The Real Housewives of Atlanta fans met Kandi as a single mom, they were soon following her journey with Todd, including family and work drama, their glamorous wedding, and welcoming two more kids to their family.
Let’s face it, their whole relationship has been documented, so it raises the question of what it’s been like for the couple to watch it all play out on TV. During an interview with Bravo Insider, Kandi asked Todd, “What have we learned about our marriage?”
“That we were born to be together,” he said of what he’s observed from watching their relationship on TV. “But it’s tough at times. I think we just work well together. I think we have our challenges. I may hold on to them a little longer, ’cause she’s a Taurus and she’s sensitive but not sensitive at times. You know what I mean? But I think we just kind of, we just roll over the bumps real easy. Like a lot of times when people go through that bumpy road, it remains bumpy because they can’t let go or move on. And I think we’re just able to kind of, you know, butt heads but figure it out and move on.”
That’s an observation Kandi agreed with, adding, “We don’t have, like, a lot of arguments. We’ll have like a quick back-and-forth and it’s done. I think our relationship is just different than other relationships I’ve experienced in the past.”
And while most couples don’t get the chance to ever watch their relationship back, there are times it can be a weird experience even for two people who know a thing or two about show business. “When we’re not getting along [it’s hard to watch],” Kandi said. “Like with those moments, it’s kind of like, ugh. But for the most part, it’s OK.”
Kandi and Todd married in 2014 and have done a lot together in the years since. They’ve expanded their businesses, appeared on several TV shows together, and added to their family (in addition to their daughters from previous relationships, Riley Burruss and Kaela Tucker, they have a son, Ace, and a daughter, Blaze, together). So how do they manage it all?
“You don’t find the balance. My new thing is one day at a time. Like, just continue to have a good day and try to make everybody, from family to [Kandi], make everyone feel good, and try to make yourself feel good, one day at a time. That’s all I can do,” Todd said with a laugh.
Kandi noted, “I think that’s great that he’s feeling that way. I feel like our lives are just all over the place. And I feel like I’m constantly trying to find that balance. And it just seems like it’s never gonna get there. But I feel like, for me, it’s all about making intentional moves.”
From there, Kandi explained the ways she’s been trying to make it all work. “So coming into this new year, I was like, I wanted to be intentional about taking care of our relationship first or whatever. So I was like, OK, every month I’m gonna try to plan something just for [us] that’s not work [related]. You know what I mean?” she said. “Like something that he and I can do, a quick getaway, whatever it may be. So that it’s like we have our moment just to focus on us.”
