Kathy Hilton now has something major in common with Taylor Swift. The same week that the pop singer received an honorary degree from NYU, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills friend was presented with an award of her own at the Academy of Art University’s recent commencement ceremony in San Francisco.

On May 18, Kathy received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the university in recognition of her notable achievements as an artistic entrepreneur. After being presented the degree by University President Dr. Elisa Stephens, Kathy also delivered an inspiring commencement speech that emphasized the importance of persistence and living with purpose.

“I’m so honored to be receiving this honorary doctorate from the distinguished Academy of Art University.  Education is the basis of all we do in this life and nowhere is that more apparent than in this remarkable institution,” Kathy said in a statement following the ceremony. “The amount of talent I’ve seen in these students makes me excited for all our futures.”

She went on to add, “In a digital age of endless content, being a pupil and perfecting your art is a gift. Thanks to social media where these students can immediately showcase their art and design, this new generation has prioritized their creativity in every art form. Nowhere will they be taught the tools to excel and hone their craft like the Academy of Art University.”
