Jen Shah Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud Case
The RHOSLC cast member’s lawyer said in a statement: “She accepts full responsibility for her actions and deeply apologizes.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Jen Shah pleaded guilty to wire fraud on Monday, July 11, according to NBC News. She appeared in a courtroom in Manhattan this week and entered into an agreement with federal prosecutors. She changed her plea to guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
According to NBC News, Shah agreed to forfeit $6.5 million and to pay restitution up to $9.5 million. She also faces a sentence of up to 14 years in prison.
Her attorney, Priya Chaudhry, issued a statement to NBC News (as well as a similar statement to E! News), sharing to NBC News that her client pleaded guilty “because she wants to pay her debt to society and put this ordeal behind her and her family… Ms. Shah is a good woman who crossed a line. She accepts full responsibility for her actions and deeply apologizes to all who have been harmed. Ms. Shah is also sorry for disappointing her husband, children, family, friends, and supporters.”
This week’s events come as Shah was previously scheduled to stand trial beginning next week. She first pleaded not guilty in April 2021 to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Those latter charges will be tossed out according to her plea agreement, NBC News further reports.
