Daughter Zena Taught Ryan Serhant "Small People Can Break" Him
The MDLNY agent jokes about life as a dad to his little girl.
Life can change pretty quick in one year. And since Ryan Serhant became a dad to daughter Zena in February 2019, he's learned that lesson. The Million Dollar Listing New York agent is now reflecting on how he may be able to take on the toughest real estate clients in NYC, but that his little girl is tougher than any of those demanding folks — in the most adorable ways.
Ryan reflected on the past year of his life since he and wife Emilia Bechrakis welcomed Zena in an email interview with The Daily Dish.
The Daily Dish: Describe your first Father's Day.
Ryan Serhant: My mom took me to dinner! It was very sweet and kind of surreal.
Describe your best Father's Day.
RS: I’ve only had one! And it was awesome.
What is the best dad advice you ever got and from whom did you receive it?
RS: The toughest thing you’ll ever have to do as a dad is say, “No.” Saying yes to kids is the easy way out, but it’s not good for them.
How would you describe your dad philosophy?
RS: My daughter is my whole world. I want to protect her from everything and build an amazing life for her to explore.
What have you learned most about yourself from being a dad?
RS: Small people can break me.
What’s the most important lesson you can teach your kids?
RS: Hard work trumps talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Are you the easy parent or the disciplinary parent?
RS: Easy.
What’s the most important lesson your kids have taught you?
RS: Communicate, communicate, communicate!
What do you hope for your kids and future generations?
RS: Health, health, health, and happiness.
