Scheana Shay Explains the Surprising Moment She Knew She Would Marry Brock Davies
The Vanderpump Rules cast member shared details of her engagement, including signing a prenup and her plans to change her name.
ICYMI: Scheana Shay and Brock Davies are engaged! Nearly two years after they started dating, Brock popped the question and, of course, Scheana "SAID YES!!!!!," as she confirmed on Instagram on Friday (July 23).
In an episode of her podcast released on the same day, Scheana revealed that the proposal took place last week. "And we haven't really told that many people yet," she said.
Well, now the world knows, and Scheana's sharing more details about the next chapter for the couple. "We've talked about this for a while now — and especially since we got pregnant and especially after we had a bassinet that said 'Baby Shay' for five days in the hospital with a baby girl whose name is not 'Baby Shay,' we definitely knew we wanted to make it official sooner rather than later," she said on her podcast. (Scheana welcomed their daughter, Summer Moon Honey Davies, back in April.) "So we decided to get the ball rolling by doing a prenup. We did that because this time around [versus my first marriage to Mike Shay], as much as I think we're going to live happily ever after, I just wanted to be smart about it, and I guess that's what people do."
Scheana's feelings on getting married again seem to have changed within just a few months. Back in March, Scheana, who was still pregnant at the time, opened up about how she felt about getting engaged. "We are very happy having this baby and starting a family together which is more than enough right now," she tweeted. "No rush for us both to get remarried."
As for the proposal, well, it took place after they finished signing their prenup. Brock first surprised Scheana with a love letter that left her "bawling," and then after presenting her with flowers and a few fake-out moments, he popped the question on their balcony.
Brock noted that for days leading up to the moment, he asked Scheana to marry him, and he was feeling very emotional. "I think I cried that week, like, every day," he said. For the record, Scheana confirmed it was all "happy tears."
The couple chatted more about their proposal to PEOPLE. "I knew it was coming soon, but I didn't know how or when. I was so surprised!" Scheana told the publication. "Brock knows me so well and knew exactly how to do what I would want."
As for the prenup, Brock shared more details about it on Scheana's podcast. "Just to be very clear, I get zero," he said. "We get what we earned, we keep what we earned, and we put it into a group account moving forward, just in case anyone had any ideas."
Scheana also noted on the podcast that next up will be a wedding, but they have "no idea" what those plans will be or when it might happen. They are mulling different plans, but she noted that they might do something small and "super private" so that she can change her name (Shay is her last name from her first marriage) since she's "irking" to make that change.
As for the plan for the bigger wedding, on both the podcast and to PEOPLE, Scheana noted that she has a location in mind. "There's no date set, but our dream would be to get married in Bali," she told the publication, mirroring podcast comments. "That's where we first said 'I love you.' It's a special place for us both!"
