Selena Gomez Bests Kendall and Kim with Her Own Digital Detox
The singer opens up about taking a much-needed break.
Last month, Kendall Jenner stepped away from Instagram for a week. Kim Kardashian has avoided her social media channels for 8 weeks after being robbed at gunpoint in Paris in October. Selena Gomez recently revealed that she also embraced a break from the digital life earlier this year — and the singer took an even longer hiatus than the Kardashian-Jenners, beating them at their own game.
"I recently took 90 days off. During that time I did not have my cellphone," she told Thrive Global about the much-needed break. "It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me."
Her decision to put her phone down came at a time when Selena was taking a bigger break to deal with some health issues. She said in a statement to Us Weekly back in August that she was stepping away to deal with “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” due to lupus. “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off."
Selena re-emerged at the 2016 American Music Awards last month, during which she addressed that hiatus. “I think it’s safe to say most of you know a lot of my life whether I liked it or not,” she said. “I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside, and I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
