Mercedes "MJ" Javid has officially been a wife for nearly five months, having said "I do" at her wedding with Tommy Feight on April 21, and the Shahs of Sunset fashionista couldn't be happier to be a Mrs. "I'm very happy to be finally a newlywed," MJ told The Daily Dish during an interview in New York City at the end of July. "I love him unconditionally, and compassion is a good thing. I've learned that — yes, lately."
MJ said that she feels like she has become a more selfless person in her first few months of her marriage to Tommy. "Love, true love just makes me want to make him happy. And I think when I was a single, spoiled brat, I wasn't as in touch with compassion as I am now," she explained. "I think that when you're single, you tend to only have to think about yourself, and then when you truly find somebody that you love, the act of giving and loving can be contagious. I like taking care of him. As a wife, the roles that I take on, such as taking him to the dentist and the dermatologist, I actually enjoy picking him up and dragging him because he won't take himself. I believe it makes him feel more loved. We're on a roll with that right now. We want to keep it going."
That magnanimous spirit has even influenced a huge decision MJ faced after tying the knot: the possibility of legally changing her last name from Javid to Tommy's last name, Feight. "I will take his last name because I know that he will get a lot of pride and gratification out of that," she told The Daily Dish. "And as I said, I'm very much in the giving, being a good wife zone right now."
MJ said that Tommy was overjoyed when she told him about her choice. "The moment that I told him, and I saw the expression on his face, not only in approval, but he was kind of thrown aback that I wasn't gonna keep my name," MJ shared. "Like, I'm doing it for him and our future kids."
MJ previously confirmed to The Daily Dish that she has undergone IVF. "We have frozen eggs, we have made embryos, and we're preparing for, hopefully, God willing, fingers crossed, a transfer," she said during an interview at the end of July. "So maybe six months from now or so, we'll be able to say that we're pregnant. Right now, I'm not pregnant."
Though MJ admitted to The Daily Dish that not every part of married life is perfect, she said that she has learned to be more understanding and forgiving with Tommy, rather than spark any fiery moments, like the ones we've seen on Shahs of Sunset. "I still want to smash his face in once in a while because he leaves his sponge in the sink or he doesn't take his shoes off and tracks mud through the house. But then I don't want to sound like a mother, a nag, so then I just kind of take a breath and just pull out my Swiffer mop and whatever," she said. "I take care of it."
We'll get a front-row seat to MJ and Tommy's wedding planning in an all-new episode of Shahs of Sunset Thursday at 9/8c. Check out a sneak peek, below.
