Skinnygirl Adds Some Serious Muscle

Bethenny finds a corporate teammate to expand her brand.

By Lauren Metz

Someone needs to pass Jason Hoppy a promotion. On Bethenny Ever After, we saw Bethenny Frankel on the verge of Ramona eyes over tweets and e-mails saying no one could find her Skinnygirl margarita on shelves. In stepped B's business savvy hubby to help keep up with the drink's rapid growth, and let's just say the yoga-loving mom won't have to deal with availability issues any longer.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Fortune Brands Inc. -- the same powerhouse behind Jim Beam bourbon and Sauza tequila -- has acquired Bethenny's Skinnygirl brand, with plans to expand distribution and add more low-cal cocktails to the list. Details weren't released but this deal is sure to give our Skinnygirl some fat pockets. "Skinnygirl is still my brand," Bethenny tweeted. "I'm partners with beam global. I'll write a whole post on my site & tell u!"

Deciding to take Skinnygirl to the next level wasn't a no-brainer for the A Place of Yes author. The Wall Street Journal reports B said it was "a very difficult decision" to sell off her beloved brand, but the entrepreneur was eager for some "big muscle [behind it]."
