Back in December, Jo De La Rosa revealed a shocking bit of information about the engagement ring Slade Smiley proposed with in 2006. While appearing on Jeff Lewis Live, The Real Housewives of Orange County alum said that the canary diamond was actually totally fake.

“It was a placeholder,” said Jo. “The center stone was supposed to be changed in the future, but we never got there, obviously.”

The couple called off their engagement in 2007, but now Slade is telling his side of the story. He opened up about the now-infamous ring on Knot Too Taboo, the podcast he just launched with his fiancé, RHOC alum Gretchen Rossi. (The couple got engaged in 2013, and welcomed a baby girl named Skylar last July.)

While addressing Jo’s claim that the ring was fake, Slade did not confirm or deny if the diamond was real. However, he did mention that “she bought the ring herself.”

Of their new joint podcast, the couple explained in a statement to PEOPLE, “Together, we have experienced a lot of life’s ups and downs, from marriage to divorce, financial struggles, kids and loved ones with cancer, legal disputes, public ridicule, false accusations, relational issues, parental issues, and lost loved ones, but through it all we have managed to survive and come out even stronger and more in love, all without ever tying the knot."
