We Now Know Why Sonja Morgan Was So Upset About Not Being Invited to the Berkshires
"I'm very allergic to this friend-jumping stuff," the #RHONY renaissance woman said on #WWHL.
Nobody likes to feel excluded, especially The Real Housewives. So when Dorinda Medley decided not to invite Sonja Morgan to the group's weekend in the Berkshires last season of The Real Housewives of New York City, we fully expected her to be upset. But we never imagined that she'd still be this upset.
Sonja's sorrow morphed into an intense feud with Dorinda that came to a head during last season's reunion, and it seems like it will only get more heated as the two finally come face-to-face at Ramona Singer's dinner party in next week's episode of RHONY. Still, RHONY fans have been wondering what's really behind Sonja's beef with Dorinda, since she seems to be holding a grudge way longer than we ever anticipated.
But finally, we know why. After all that, Sonja explained that her issues with Dorinda actually have nothing to do with not being invited to the Berkshires during Wednesday's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show. "It wasn't about not being invited to the Berkshires. It was about, I'm very allergic to this friend-jumping stuff," Sonja said. "So these were my really good friends, and [Dorinda] was someone that everyone had known for 10 years. I was invited the year before with my really good friends to Dorinda's house. Then the following year, for all these flimsy excuses, I'm not invited with my really good friend group. There comes the pain and the stab."
Sonja said she has experienced this sort of behavior in New York society before. "And it happens all the time. You meet these people who you've always seen out at cocktail parties. They come into your friend group, and then there's the dinner the next night that you're not invited to or the front row at the fashion show and they don't include you. That's how I felt. I felt somebody else was with my friends, and I'm not there," she said during the WWHL After Show. "And I needed to get with Bethenny [Frankel]. There was this whole blow-up that they were stirring the pot on."
Andy Cohen suggested that he thinks it's time for Sonja to get over last season's Berkshires drama. "OK, Season 8," he reminded Sonja after her explanation.
Sonja's fellow WWHL guest, Michael Rapaport, chimed in, echoing what Dorinda has previously given as her rationale for not inviting the RHONY pal. "But I felt like Dorinda not inviting you to the Berkshires in general was to protect you from a whole blow-up happening, which inevitably happened, even though you weren't there," he said.
After that, it seemed like Sonja was finally ready to move on from the topic — for now, at least.
Next Wednesday night's episode of RHONY at 9/8c will give us the Dorinda and Sonja showdown we've all been waiting for. Catch a sneak peek, below.
