The Millionaire Matchmaker's Destin and Rachel: Where Are They Now?
The former #Matchmaker duo open up about reuniting with Patti Stanger.
Although they had already found love for themselves, real-life couple Destin Pfaff and Rachel Federoff spent six seasons trying to help singles find romance during their tenure on The Millionaire Matchmaker. They were not only Patti Stanger's employees and co-workers, but also her pals, so when they stepped away from her and the show in 2013, it definitely felt like a break-up. But, the couple knew that they needed to take some time to focus on themselves and other projects.
"Well, honestly, we hated to leave," Rachel told The Daily Dish. "We loved Bravo and we loved the show and everything about it. It just was time for us to take a bit of a break. The clients can be very draining, so it's a lot of babysitting and hand holding and craziness that goes with it. And so we just needed a big break to breath a bit."
"The show was a very big highlight of our life. We love The Millionaire Matchmaker," Destin continued. "We had a few films that we had [and] projects that we wanted to put together and we couldn't be wholehearted into matchmaking. We had to step away from a little while and unfortunately stepping away from Patti meant stepping away from the show. We took a break and our break is over. We took a break from everything. We didn't speak for three years... that kind of meant stepping away from every aspect of matchmaking there was. We knew if we hung around Patti we'd get sucked right back in."
Destin and Rachel definitely shared a storied history with the opinionated matchmaking pro. "Patti was an important part of our life," Destin said. "Patti was my best friend. I worked with her. I ran her business for 10 years and, speaking for myself, it was a big part of my life and it became a big part of Rachel's, too." Rachel added that they the trio had a family dynamic. "We went on trips together. We did everything together," she recalled. "We shared lives, as dysfunctional as it was there was a lot of love there all around."
After stepping away from Patti and the series, the couple found a new way to help singles, serving as romance consultants for folks who are hung up on their exes. "We wanted to help teach people how to match themselves," Destin explained. "That's a big, big thing that we focused on was helping people get over their ex and move on so that they can date," Rachel said of their joint venture. "Ex cleansing is a big thing that we do as well as consultations."
However they couldn't let go of their ex. And earlier this year they reached out to Patti again when they were faced with a client that they felt only she could find a match for. They now appear on Patti's new series Million Dollar Matchmaker. But things aren't quite back to business as usual for Patti, Rachel, and Destin. "It took a moment," Rachel said of staging the ambush to reunite with her after she didn't respond to their initial calls. "She definitely was very hurt by us leaving, which is understandable. We were a family, so yeah, it was difficult and there was drama and there was spitting fire back and forth on all parties. But then as the weeks went on it felt very much again we were talking old times... it became more sentimental and I think it's gonna grow back, hopefully, how it was."
Destin notes that there's plenty of work to do. "The relationship is still very fragile. Reuniting with anyone can be a fragile situation," he said. "We hope that it continues on the path it's on now, which is building trust again [and] building loyalty again. The biggest part is understanding we didn't want to abandon anybody, but sometimes you need a moment to work on yourself and that's what we needed."
In addition to pursuing other ventures, the couple also expanded their family. The Millionaire Matchmaker viewers got to know their son, Sin Halo (born in 2009), during the series and earlier this summer the couple welcomed their second child, Ever Reign. And, watching Sin Halo as a baby on The Millionaire Matchmaker remains a nice memory for the couple. "It's very surreal, but at the end of the day it's really cool and special to share your lives with others," the mother-of-two shared. "Granted there's the privacy factor you wish you had a lot, but it's really special that people are knowing about your life and congratulating you on your child. It's kind of a neat thing to look back."
And Destin agrees with her, despite being a more private person. "So coming onto a reality television show, I was very, very, very hesitant but over the years having done it with Matchmaker, it's become just a massively important part of my life bringing entertainment and joy and fun to people has been really, really cool [and] teaching people lessons and having them quote back things that you said that have helped them through things, it's amazing," he added. "It's a blessing and it's awesome."
