The Valley Producer Reveals Behind-The-Scenes Secrets, Including How He Learned to "Speak Kristen"
Kristen Doute also dished on what she was nervous to film on The Valley.
Kristen Doute has an important man in her life — and it isn’t her boyfriend, Luke Broderick.
Kristen showered love onto The Valley’s supervising producer Herbert in an adorable clip that had the pair swapping roles and Kristen asking the tough questions, including how Herbert managed to learn how to “speak Kristen” after their time working together.
“How do you feel you were able to do that because many producers in my past have died before you,” Kristen jokingly asked.
“You know, your reputation preceded you for sure,” Herbert responded. “So, I was like, I’m assuming she — she seems cool, like right?”
“She doesn’t seem like totally bat sh-t,” Kristen laughingly added.
“No,” Herbert assured her, “Not totally bat sh-t” before making a hand motion to suggest the Vanderpump Rules alum may be just a little crazy.
“Just smidgey,” Kristen agreed. “Just enough for reality TV. To make your job easier.”
What does The Valley producer say about the new series?
Herbert called Kristen a “fun” addition to the new series, which will follow Kristen, Luke, and four other couples as they “trade bottle service in West Hollywood for baby bottles in the Valley all while they navigate bustling businesses, rocky relationships and feisty friendships.”

While the show, which premieres Tuesday March 19, has Vanderpump Rules alums like Kristen, Jax Taylor, and Brittany Cartwright, fans will also get to know a whole new group of faces.
“Were you nervous coming onto a new show, a brand new show, but that it was like intermixed with new cast members and OG?” Kristen asked.
“No, I wasn’t nervous at all,” Herbert quickly said. “I was looking forward to working with you, Jax and Brit, just 'cause I know them from Vanderpump.”
Although Herbert may have found the experience “easy, breezy,” Kristen admitted she was a bit nervous to film with the new cast.
“Yeah, but I’m on the other side, Kris,” Herbert explained. “You’re in front and you’re, you know, you have to deal with them. I don’t. I can go home.”
As for his favorite cast member? Kristen may have put some pressure on her favorite producer, asking, “Who is your favorite cast member this season on The Valley and why is it me?”
“Zack,” Herbert said, referencing Zack Wickham. After getting a playful glare from Kristen, he wisely rethought his answer.
“I’m just kidding. I love you,” he told her.
“Thank you,” she said. “You heard it here first, Zack.”
Herbert isn’t the only one who was feeling the love, Kristen revealed she requested Herbert to be her producer for every scene she shot on the new series.
While Herbert jokingly admitted he felt that may have put a “target” on his back, these two clearly have a comfortable working relationship, even when Herbert had to follow Kristen on some difficult fertility journeys in the upcoming first season.
“What was it like having to discuss fertility with Luke and I for three months straight? Was that difficult? Or easier because you’re a dad yourself?” Kristen asked.
“Yes, I’m a dad myself, but also I know how sensitive it was for you guys,” he said, adding he tried to balance that with letting fans know “what’s happening.”
“And it’s happening in real life,” Kristen added. “That’s the thing. You’re not forcing this out of me, it’s what I’m going through.”
Whatever the topic, the well-versed producer has proved he’s got what it takes to handle anything the cast can throw at him.
“Do you feel like you have a therapy degree of some sort?” Kristen asked.
“Oh, 100 percent,” he replied.
Kristen concurred, adding that she believed the producers on the show were better than people with “a PhD” or “12-year degree.”
“How do you handle [it] when cast members cry and/or fly off the handle?” she asked.
“You just have to listen. You just have to be their sounding board,” he said.
