While paying a visit to Vanderpump Dogs with the pups, Butter and Gordo, he shares with his ex, Schwartz shared that his younger brother, Bert, has been dealing with alcoholism ever since he went through a traumatic incident.

"I got really bad news about my brother this morning," he told the restaurateur. "I got my brother back in rehab, but he had to be rushed to the hospital yesterday. I didn't realize it was this bad, but I think he has cirrhosis, and that's really serious if you know anything about it."

As Schwartz explained in an interview on the episode, "Bert used to be like this ray of sunshine."

However, things changed when "he got jumped outside of a bar."

"He was just kind of never the same," he continued. "He slowly started developing a dependency on alcohol."

How Bert Schwartz's Health Issues Have Affected Tom Schwartz

As Bert navigates his health matter (and amidst brother Brandon Schwartz's cancer battle), Tom Schwartz is thinking about his own habits differently.

"Any form of addiction and the impact it has on the whole family is brutal," Schwartz said on the episode. "Seeing someone I love suffer so much because of their dependency on alcohol, it's made me re-think my moderation."
