The Premiere of Top Chef Season 17's Last Chance Kitchen Kicks off with a Seafood Showdown

Find out who won the challenge and a chance to return to the competition.

In the premiere of Last Chance Kitchen, following the March 26 episode of Top Chef, two previously-eliminated chefs engage in a sizzling seafood showdown.

All Star chefs Joe Sasto (Season 15) and Angelo Sosa (Seasons 7 and 8) were both sent home for creating seafood dishes that were far too complicated, but received a shot at redemption and a chance to return to the Top Chef kitchen in what Joe refers to as “an Italian throwdown bro-down.”

“What I love about Last Chance Kitchen, is it’s a means of redeeming yourself,” Angelo explained before the challenge. “Not only to win, but I also want to show my son, who has gone through so many challenges and obstacles, I want to be that example for him. Just believe in yourself and believe in your dreams. I’m looking forward to this, I feel pretty positive.”

Host Tom Colicchio brought Joe and Angelo to Michael Cimarusti’s restaurant, Providence, to heat things up.

“You both went home cooking not-so-good seafood dishes, and Michael is arguably one of the best seafood chefs in the world,” Tom explained.

With the stakes set high, Joe and Angelo had 30 minutes to create a delicious dish, placing the primary focus on the seafood ingredients.

“I have to make sure not to overcomplicate this like I did with my flatbread, and make the seafood the star of the show,” explained Joe. “I want to get back into the competition. I can’t blow it.”
