As people around the world continue to protest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, parents are opening up discussions with their children about racial injustice. The Real Housewives of Atlanta dad Todd Tucker recently explained the conversation he had with his 4-year-old son, Ace, while cast member Cynthia Bailey shared footage after attending a protest with her family. Now, Married to Medicine mom Toya Bush-Harris is talking about bringing her sons to their very first protest.

How to Watch

Watch Married to Medicine now streaming on Peacock and the Bravo App.

In a June 10 Instagram post, Toya shared a collage of photos of her sons, Ashton and Avery, creating signs for a protest. The signs included powerful phrases such as, “We all bleed the same color,” “Racism is a pandemic,” and “Being Black is not a crime.”

“PROUD MOM! Raising my sons to know when to stand for what’s right!” Toya captioned the post. “They asked why…I told them the TRUTH!”

Toya then shared a photo of her boys holding up their signs at the protest later that day.

“My sons’ first BUT NEVER their LAST protest…We all bleed the same color,” Toya captioned the photo, adding, “BLM,” “Their Lives Matter,” “Black Family,” and “Racism is a pandemic, too” as hashtags on the post.

Days before the protest, Toya shared a post explaining why she feels it is necessary to be an activist.

“In order to protect my spirit, I must protect my inner peace. I recognize my attitude is contagious…” she captioned a photo of her family. “How Can I have peace knowing racism exists? I can’t, because I have two loving, educated, beautiful sons and a blessing in a husband. I can’t complain about those things I haven’t fought to change. The Bible teaches prayer without works is dead!”
