Why Silas Cooper Isn’t Returning to Summer House: Martha's Vineyard

Silas Cooper had some rough moments with housemates on Summer House: Martha's Vineyard, but the drama has nothing to do with why the newlywed is skipping out on Season 2.

Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard is one man short this season.

How to Watch

Watch Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard on Sundays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

Silas Cooper, who made waves last season amid allegations he was too controlling of his new wife, Jasmine, is sitting out Season 2 — but it has nothing to do with the drama last season.

It turns out, Silas has a very good reason for missing the summer festivities. He’s fulfilling his military duty!

Why Isn’t Silas Cooper In Season 2 of Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard

Just before filming began, the Army officer headed off on a 10-month deployment to Eastern Europe.

“Being a military family, it’s always on the table that you will actually go overseas and serve,” Jasmine explained in the premiere of Season 2. “I think I need my friends now more than ever because I need that support.”

Here's Where the Summer House: Martha's Vineyard Cast's Relationships Stand in Season 2

Cameras were rolling as Silas was packing up just a month before the Martha’s Vineyard crew was set to head back to the historic island for another summer of fun.

“Honestly, I don’t think it’s really hit me yet,” Silas said of the lengthy deployment. “I’m trying to see it as, I’m just going to do my job and come home and you know, keep my head on straight.”

Are Jasmine and Silas Cooper still together?

Yes, they are!

When Jasmine and Silas arrived at the villa last season, they were on the heels of their lavish wedding. But the trip was no honeymoon.

Silas raised eyebrows after insisting Jasmine couldn’t accept a free drink while out with girls and expected his new wife to make him breakfast each day and keep his clothes ironed, leading to an explosive fight after Jasmine made a mark on his pants while ironing.

“Silas and I had a pretty hard year last year and now he’s been deployed,” Jasmine confided in the Season 2 premiere. “Silas will be gone for 10 months in Eastern Europe and we just celebrated one year of marriage and him leaving is the last thing I wanted.”

Jasmine also revealed the couple sought out counseling in the aftermath of the rocky season.

“Silas and I had to go back to counseling because we really had to re-learn each other all over again,” she shared, adding that the last summer was “not fun.”

Silas himself addressed the accusations that he had been “controlling of his wife” in an interview with US Weekly

“At the end of the day, I understand why some folks may see it that way,” he said. “I don’t want to be on defense about it. I understand why folks may look at it and I respect their opinion.”

While there were admittedly some growing pains in the beginning of the union, the couple is still clearly committed to each other.

Silas sent flowers to his wife at the vacation home and the couple shared a loving video chat.

“I miss you and love you,” Jasmine told him.

Silas admitted he was feeling “a little” fear of missing out as the rest of the group was happily reuniting, but was trying to stay focused on completing his military obligations.

“I feel good,” he told Jasmine. “I feel good that I’m able to speak to you.”

Did Jasmine Ellis Cooper have a baby?

Jasmine was quick to announce in Season 2 that she’d be enjoying a “sober summer.”

While she claimed the decision not to indulge was just something she was trying out, fans would later learn the real reason behind her dry summer. She announced in November that she was pregnant and would soon be entering her “mom era.”

Earlier this year, Jasmine shared the happy news that she and Silas welcomed a son on Feb. 22, 2024.

"Welcome Home Silas 'Si' Geplay Cooper Jr.," she wrote on Instagram along with some adorable photos of her cozying up to the new addition.

Are Jasmine and Jordan friends?

As Season 2 kicked off Jasmine and Silas appeared to be in a better place, but the same can’t be said for Jasmine’s friendships — particularly the bond she once shared with Jordan Emanuel

Jasmine and Jordan admitted they’d barely talked in the months since last summer and Jasmine found herself often left off of the invite list for group gatherings.

“Last summer Jasmine didn’t seem like herself,” Jordan admitted of what’s creating the distance between the two. “It just felt like she had to put on this act of being the perfect wife, dress cleanly in her state of perfection rather than being the light-hearted, goofy care-free person that I knew.”

The pair tried to address the tension between them on a boat trip in the Season 2 premiere, but it’s unclear whether any real progress was made by the heart-to-heart session.

“I don’t think Jordan and I will go back to how we were,” Jasmine admitted. “I think we’ll reestablish what this friendship looks like for each of us.”

Jordan added: “I’m open to improving my friendship with Jasmine. I don’t know what that looks like though.”
