ABC Cancels The Chew Amid Mario Batali Sexual Misconduct Allegations
The Chew is cancelled, ABC announced Wednesday.
It's over. Just about five months after Mario Batali became the subject of multiple sexual misconduct allegations, ABC announced it's cancelling The Chew. It will be replaced with a third hour of Good Morning America on the network.
One of the show's original co-hosts when it launched in 2011, Batali had been fired from The Chew amid the initial allegations. Three hosts remained: Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Michael Symon.
In December, after Batali's firing, the remaining hosts issued a statement that included Kelly's comment: "Yesterday, allegations of past improper behavior surfaced about our own Mario Batali, and ABC asked him to step away from the show while those allegations are reviewed."
Symon added, "We want you to know we take these matters very seriously and are committed to a safe work environment."
And at that time, Hall said, "Our commitment to our viewers remains the same — to deliver the entertaining show that you’ve come to expect."
The Chew's cancellation comes after seven seasons on TV.
