Good Place Actress Jameela Jamil Is Telling Her Truth About Celebs’ Detox Tea Ads — and Going Viral
People are positively starving for Jameela Jamil's style of diet realness.
Jameela Jamil is emerging as an activist for body positivity. The actress, who appears in the NBC series The Good Place, recently called out rapper Cardi B for promoting a brand of detox tea on Instagram that the rapper probably doesn't even drink, and warned of the dangers of using these products.
“I was the teenager who starved herself for years, who spent all her money on these miracle cures and laxatives and tips from celebrities on how to maintain a weight that was lower than what my body wanted it to be,” she revealed in a tweet. “I was sick, I have had digestion and metabolism problems for life.”
Now, she's going viral for another direct critique of these drinks.
"If influencers and celebrities were actually honest with us about some of these slimming/detox products," she captioned a video on Instagram in which she pretends to tout the massive weight-losing benefits of a detox drink — "I've lost 35 pounds in one week!" she cooed — and then is seen glued to a toilet for three days.
"It burns!" she complains in the clip.
Jameela has advised people not to drink detox teas, saying, "You need fiber! Not something that honestly just makes you have diarrhea the day you take it and constipates you in the long run."
