"Hangry" Snowboarder Chloe Kim Reveals Her Ideal Celebration Food — And Sparks Twitter Controversy
The teen star from the U.S.A. has fearlessly expressed some "problematic" food preferences.
U.S.A. snowboarder Chloe Kim, who is just 17 years old, earned Olympic gold for a women’s halfpipe event that was very close to perfect — and she somehow did it, bless her heart, all while "hangry."
Between runs in the final, she tweeted, “Wish I finished my breakfast sandwich but my stubborn self decided not to and now I’m getting hangry.”
Let it be known that, while Kim may be nearly alone at the top of her field of talent, she's far from alone in the feeling of being hangry — indeed, now so popular a lament that the word hangry was just added to the Oxford English Dictionary!
Anyway, once she nailed that contest, what would she want to eat for a celebratory meal if she had all of the world's food resources (not to mention a bit of free time) at her disposal?
“Burgers, fries, maybe some Hawaiian pizza,” she told People.
Record scratch. Oh no she didn't.
Right away, that last choice of Hawaiian pizza — a.k.a. pizza topped with the ever-controversial ingredient pineapple — triggered an impassioned online response. One Twitter user remarked that Kim's taste in food was sure to be widely considered "problematic."
Indeed, pineapple pizza is a hugely polarizing topic. Gordon Ramsay even considers it his most hated food.
But back to Olympic champ Kim and a less-controversial, but still rather curious, food preference she expressed earlier in the week, which also went viral:
Never mind that it's 11 degrees in Pyeongchang. That fact didn't seem to bother Tonga's famous shirtless and oiled-up flag bearer much, either. Adrenaline, we suppose.
