We must ask… why?
Well, here’s what happened.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s husband this week shared a video of Kaela, whom he shares with an ex, sipping a drink as a stripper dances behind her, captioning it, “@kpt__ watch out for the bootie! Lol.”
People did not like this. At all.
“Damn!! Wasn’t there anything else for you and your daughter to do? Yikes! Awkward!!” wrote one follower. “What in the daddy day care,” another wrote.
But he defended himself, telling TMZ, “Me and my daughter been to the strip club before — we’ve been to Magic City, ain’t no big deal. Me and my mom even went to the strip club before. It’s in our genes.”
(Below, see daddy/daughter not at the strip club.)
He added, “They’re going to go anyway, so why not experience it and have fun with your kids. That’s what we need to do — we need to spend more time with our kids, even if it’s at the strip club. It’s not a big deal. They’re going to find out from their friends anyway.”
Psychotherapist Jason Eric Ross tells Personal Space that this kind of behavior can be a little weird on the parent's part.
He explains: "Parents need to be aware of boundaries. If a parent is inappropriate, it affects the child emotionally. Especially when it’s a child of the opposite sex and even more so when the child has not reached adulthood."
"Does a father need to be bringing his daughter to a strip club? First of all, why would he want to? Second, what does that say or tell his daughter about his views of women? Third, did his daughter really want to go?" Ross asks.
He says bringing your daughter to a strip club for a bonding session may not be the best way to set an example, as it could look like a "dad who just wanted to go to a strip club and justify it as a bonding experience."
"If she wanted to watch strippers with her father, I would [personally] call it a very unhealthy bonding experience. Common sense would tell you it is unlikely that this was her decision," he opines.
We're sure Todd meant no harm and, at 23, Kaela could surely speak up if she really didn't want to go. Still, perhaps next time, they'll reel it back in to a nightclub where most people have all their clothes on?
