When you’re decorating a space, it’s all about layering neutrals and prints and textures and heights. Part of that process involves statement pieces. Maybe it’s a bright green rug, maybe it’s a wild wallpaper — or if you’re one of the Real Housewives, then it’s a literal statement in the form of a neon sign. A décor trend that’s taking been gaining steam over the past few years thanks to Instagram, neon signs are no longer only for commercial use.
And the best part is that this trend is totally customizable! Whether you want something uplifting or raunchy or motivating is up to you, as is the color and location.
Who’s got one? Let’s take a look.
The Real Housewives of New York City OG loves her a neon sign. Often posting powerful quotes in neon lights on Instagram, Bethenny has not one, but two signs in her spaces. In her 4,000-square-foot Soho apartment, the Skinnygirl founder installed an “I know it all” sign above a cozy couch in her masculine-hued library. Bethenny’s designer Vian Abreu of Interior Marketing Group told Architectural Digest, “The neon sign in the library is one of our favorite elements in the home, but it was a process. We did a few mock-ups with different fonts and colors until we got the one we all agreed on.”
In her office next door, the philanthropist also installed a “b strong” neon sign to represent her disaster relief work.
Most wouldn’t think to hang a neon sign in grand staircase wall, but Kim Zolciak-Biermann is not most! The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Don't Be Tardy mama perched a sign saying, “ask believe receive,” in the staircase of her Atlanta home, which makes for an especially dramatic backdrop for selfies and OOTD shots.
Kim installed another neon sign in her wig room — commissioning the “PLASTIC” sign from the same artist who installed an identical piece in Kylie Jenner’s glam room.
You know if Erika Girardi is doing it, then it’s cool, right? Right. We got a peek at the songstress’ office on last season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and in addition to a tailoring station, a glam room, and a mirrored table for all the boss babe’s meetings, Erika’s also got a prominently displayed neon sign. What’s it’s say? “Pretty Me$s” of course!
She may not be a Real Housewife, but she is a Ladies of London OG! Since leaving London, Caroline Stanbury has relocated to Dubai with her husband and children, and as we saw last week on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, she greets all of her guests in the entryway with… you guessed it, a neon sign! Caroline’s sign says, “Just Love Me.” Awww. And she gets bonus point for matching the bench’s throw pillows to the sign’s exact color. Now that’s some talent!
