Tom Schwartz Became "Addicted to the Sadness" After His Split From Katie Maloney

At BravoCon 2022, the Vanderpump Rules cast member explained where he stands after his divorce.

Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney got candid about their split at BravoCon 2022, which came just days after the former couple finalized their divorce.

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

Speaking on a panel alongside their fellow Vanderpump Rules cast members, Tom and Katie both said that they're doing well, although for Tom, that wasn't always the case. "It's been an emotional rollercoaster," he explained. "I feel like for the first few months I was a sad sack of s--t. And I think I'm guilty of indulging in those feelings a little bit."

The way Tom sees it, he "got addicted to the sadness."

"I turned emo for a while," he added. "I was kind of wallowing in my own pity party."

Looking back, Tom noted that one of the hardest parts of the breakup was making the news public. "It was a bummer because we got divorced and we were working through it, and I had made peace with it," Tom said. "But when we had the conversation about going public, that was so painful. That was hard."

What made the pair want to do so in the first place, then? "We kind of had to, I think," Katie said. "There were some rumors and I think I just wanted to live in my truth. We'd already shared so much of our lives."

As Vanderpump Rules fans may recall, Tom and Katie opted to announce the news on their respective social media accounts—a route that Tom admitted he struggled with. "How do you capture 12 years of a relationship in an Instagram post?" he said. "I tried."
