If we're being honest, we never met a tropical island we didn't love. In a fit of wanderlust, we even drummed up our own totally subjective list of 13 essential islands you must see before you die a while back — and we will never tire of imagining ourselves on remote sandy shores.
Now we have even more fodder to do just that: Travel + Leisure is out with its annual World’s Best Awards survey, in which readers weigh in on their fave cities, cruise lines, airlines, and more. Part of that list, readers also pick their top islands around the globe, based on such factors as activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness of the people, and value.
Can you guess which region in the world came out on top? Well, it's the gorgeous Philippines — nabbing three of the 10 spots.
But folks averse to long flights have plenty to cheer for too: Hilton Head, off of South Carolina, made the list, with its plantation-style architecture, top-end golf options, and Lowcountry eats. No shocker here but the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Kauai, also made the cut — and neither are strangers to this elite list. So that's three for America too. (U.S.A.! U.S.A.!)
For your wanderlusting pleasure — and your opinionated responses — here's the full list in all of its glory (and we do mean glory).
