U.S.A. Basketball Team Ditches Olympic Village for Luxury Cruise Ship
As with many aspects related to the upcoming Olympic games in Rio, you might have heard that athletes have found the Olympic Village... not quite up to their standards.
And if you think global athletes have high standards as a whole, you might imagine that few athletes — few people on earth, actually — have higher standards for luxury lodging than millionaire basketball players from right here in the U.S.A.
Today, those ballers will arrive in Rio de Janeiro for the games — but they won’t be staying in any subpar Olympic Village. No indeed, they’ll be staying on a luxury cruise ship!
The Daily Mail reports that superstar players like Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant will stay on Silversea's Silver Cloud ship, moored on the Port of Rio.
The website for the vessel’s owner claims that the boat has just undergone extensive refurbishment, and is now “the most spacious and comfortable ice class vessel in expedition cruising.”
It also specifies that 80 percent of the ship’s suites include verandas, and the ship overall has sweeping decks with multiple open spaces. Of course, it also has a swimming pool.
There are six passenger decks with room for about 200 each guests and crew. If you were to book the ship for a sailing excursion, you could bank on spending a minimum of $10,000, give or take, for just 10 days out at sea. And that’s just to start, by the way: You’d pay about $36,000 for the 736-square-foot “Royal Suite” on the same cruise.
So all that poshness and pampering sounds right in line with our athletes’ expectations for luxury lifestyle.
