Here Are Some Awesome Songs About Your Awful Ex

Find the perfect breakup anthem to revel in misery, joy, or regret!

Music can be a very cathartic way to help deal with relationship woes. From crying to entire Adele albums, to feeling nostalgic listening to Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know, there are countless songs that can perfectly describe a relationship with an ex. With infinite possibilities, Personal Space decided to seek out an expert, DJ M.O.S, to compile the ultimate playlist for every stage of the emotional rollercoaster caused by those dreadful exes.

DJ M.O.S has spun records for the in-crowd all over the world and has had clients including Barack Obama, The Oscars, Netflix, Net-A-Porter, and Dior. We asked him to dig deep into his library and choose the best songs to accompany the various emotions that can be caused by an ex. Here we go.

Personal Space: What is your go-to song when you want to cheer up?

Michael Jackson, "Baby Be Mine"

What would you play to woo someone back?

New Edition, "Can You Stand The Rain"

How many times have girls requested Beyonce’s Single Ladies in the club?

When it was at its peak, a lot!

Do artists make better music when they are in love or brokenhearted?

I think the best music comes from some sort of hardship. Whether it be a broken heart or failed relationship.

Have you ever made a breakup playlist or mixtape?

Yeah. I've made one when I was in college, lol.

What's the best song for anger?

Kelis, “Caught Out There”

“This song is for all the women out there

That been lied to by their men

And I know you all been lied to

Over and over again…

I hate you so much right now”

Denial?

Childish Gambino, "Sober"

“If you just give me some time I can open up your mind…

'Cause I know one day you'll see

All the things that we can be”

Sadness?

Mary J. Blige, "My Life"

“Oh you will see I'm so down and out

Cryin’ every day

Don't know what to do or to say”

Regret?

Jay-Z, "Regrets"

“Beads of sweat, second thoughts on my mind

How can I ease the stress and learn to live with these regrets?

…And through our travels we get separated, never forget

In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets”

Over it?

Big Sean feat. E-40, "I Don't F*** With You"

“I heard you got a new man, I see you takin' a pic

Then you post it up, thinkin' that it's makin' me sick…

I got no feelings to go

I swear I had it up to here, I got no ceilings to go…”

Sentimental?

Frank Ocean, "Thinking About You"

“Yes of course I remember, how could I forget how you feel?

You know you were my first time, a new feel

It will never get old, not in my soul, not in my spirit, keep it alive”

Happy being single?

M.O.S: Kaytranada, "One Too Many"

“All I really want

Is just a night at home with her by candlelight

But until I find that girl

I’m gonna hit the floor and we gon jam tonight

Just can’t settle down not right now”
