Gayle King’s "Haunted" Ex-Husband Issues Public Apology For Cheating On Her
He says Gayle handled the whole thing with grace. Of course she did, she's Gayle.
While Gayle King has the time of her life exploring the Grand Canyon with BFF Oprah Winfrey (and Stedman Graham), her ex-husband has publicly apologized to the talk host for cheating on her during their 11-year marriage.
The CBS This Morning host had revealed to Vanity Fair that she caught her ex, Connecticut Assistant Attorney General William Bumpus, in bed with another woman—and she remembered the exact moment it all went down.
When asked: “Which living person do you most despise?” Gayle responded with her cheating ex, but was clear she doesn’t despise him.
“Despise is a strong word. I'm not a huge fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16pm—but I don't remember the details,” she said.
Her ex-husband responded through a rep statement to Personal Space, saying he’s been sorry since the day he cheated.
"I have been haunted by this life-altering choice. Though I have dealt with this privately amongst our family, I publicly apologize for the major transgression that dramatically changed all of our lives," William says. "I have nothing but the utmost respect for Gayle and how she handled herself with grace. Despite the situation, she kept our children as well as my relationship, and involvement with them, as a clear priority. Gayle was a great wife, an excellent mother and a fantastic co-parent. I am eternally grateful for all that she has done, and continues to do, to enrich my life and the lives of our incredible adult children. I continue to be a work in progress and have spent the last 26 years striving to be a better man and father. Iapplaud Gayle's continued phenomenal success and friendship!"
Meanwhile, the always classy Gayle refused to reveal the identity of the other woman, saying, “She knows her name!”
Gale and her ex were married from 1982 to 1993, and tried marriage counseling before divorcing. They share two grown children together.
