Gwen Stefani Calls Gavin Rossdale's Cheating "Hell," "Torture"
The singer says she uncovered things over a period of eight months.
Gwen Stefani is revealing more about what exactly happened with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.
The No Doubt frontwoman calls discovering that her ex was cheating with the nanny “hell,” and that she had to work to uncover all his lies.
“February 9 . . . It was the beginning of hell,” she Harper’s Bazaar in her new cover story. “Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret.”
Her husband of 13 years had been cheating for some time, and Gwen says the split has been hard on the whole family.
“It was so insane because not only did my family break up, but then my kids are taken away like half the time, so that was really like, ‘What?! What did I do?’” she says.
Gwen revealed some of what happened on her album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which she recorded right after the split.
When she returned to work that summer on The Voice, she found comfort in her co-host Blake Shelton, who was going through his own divorce Miranda Lambert.
“It was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time,” she says. “It’s crazy the support and love I’ve felt . . . It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and, like, 'Wow, God, you just don't know what's gonna happen next.’”
“It's like, what's there to hide?” Gwen, 46, says of the relationship with Blake.
As for her three sons she shares with Gavin, Kingston, 10, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 2, Gwen says she was worried they would be hurt by her relationship, until she realized she did nothing wrong.
“It's because I have children,” she says. “As a famous person, you start to think, 'I can't say all that because I'll embarrass them or hurt them in some way.' And especially now because they can see everything and hear everything. But I've done nothing I'm ashamed of…Well, we all have a few things we're ashamed of.”
