An Indian politician named Gali Janardhana Reddy threw an overly extravagant wedding for his daughter—with over 50,000 guests and a $100 million price tag.
According toThe Sun, the wedding preparation cost him even more, with the bride Brahmani’s jewelery costing $7.5 million and her sari another $3.5 million.
Guests were invited with gold-plated invitations, arriving in a gold-plated box, which cost $225,000. The invite box was fitted with an LED screen fitted into the lid and played a video alongside the invite. The video showed Brahmani modeling potential wedding gowns, while her fiancé Rajeev Reddy is surrounded by five white horses.
The father of the bride mortgaged properties in Bangalore and Singapore to fund the wedding and paid all the bills six months ago. He hired eight Bollywood directors to create real-life sets resembling ancient Hindu temples, for the wedding backdrop. Guests will be transported around the property in luxury carts inside the Bangalore Palace.
Security will come in the form of 3,000 bouncers and 300 policemen, alongside help sniffer dogs and bomb squads.
The family has been criticized on social media for wedding, since most of the country is struggling to make ends meet.
The 49-year-old father is a former minister with the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) in the southern state of Karnataka. He spent three years in jail for a political scam and was released on bail last year. He refused to tell journalists how much the wedding cost, but promised he would be paying the taxes on it.
