The Kardashian-Jenner crew headed south to Costa Rica this weekend for one of the family's famously Instagram-friendly trips abroad. But unfortunately, Kourtney Kardashian appears to have made a social media faux pas that may have revealed she didn't know much about the country she was visiting.
The reality star posted a black-and-white photo to Instagram, in which she poses in a white bikini. She captioned it simply "Island ting." But can you guess the problem with the innocent-seeming two-word caption?
Well, Costa Rica is not actually an island: It's a country in Central America, with coastlines on the Caribbean as well as the Pacific Ocean.
Nope, not an island. And fans were quick to pounce on the error.
"What you have of money, you have of stupid, Costa Rica is not an island. Ignorant," one commenter wrote.
Another pointed out, "Costa Rica is NOT an island. Is an country!"
Another: "I'm from Costa Rica and my country is not an island use a map Google it."
And another: "You know Costa Rica isn't an island right?" Many more riffed off the same theme.
But at least one commenter came to Kourtney's defense, pointing out that although the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star posted the shot during the family's much-publicized trip to Costa Rica, perhaps it was actually a shot taken on a proper island. "This was taken in St.Barths you idiots," one commenter wrote.
With little in the way of context — the Kardashian-Jenners have mainly posted skin-centric shots without sweeping backdrops during their trip — it's not immediately obvious who was right.
But if Kourtney is guilty of a substantial geography fail on social media, it would hardly be the first time: Madonna's Africa trip resulted in an embarrassing emoji fail, too.
