Everyone’s favorite Disney princess-turned-possibly good person on The Good Place, Kristen Bell, is a longstanding animal rights advocate. She has been very vocal about her dog adoptions over the years, and even recently brought a foster named Muppet into her home.
Although she is a very busy Bad Mom and real mom of two young girls, Lincoln and Delta, she still makes plenty of time for her fur babies. “I have treated all my dogs like my kids,” Bell told PEOPLE. “To me, they’re just kids I didn’t birth.” Bell and her husband Dax Shepherd currently have one rescue dog, Lola, whom they affectionately refer to as their “daughter.”
So we aren't surprised to see her starring alongside Charlize Theron in a video for Wallis Annenberg PetSpace in Playa Vista, California. It's a unique, animal-focused community area that focuses "on the mutually beneficial and dynamic bond between people and their pets, as well as the origins and science of that relationship." The space has an education center, a leadership institute, and an interactive place for pet adoptions—from dogs to cats to rabbits!
In the video supporting the Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, Bell is candid about why she elects to rescue:
"I chose to adopt as opposed to go to a breeder because I wanted a family member not a handbag. I felt like it should be less about the purchase and more about connecting with someone who also needs some companionship. I think a lot about all the animals that are in the pounds right now that don’t have homes that are put down because people don’t rescue enough. And I wanted to save a life.”
The video also features Theron with two of her rescues, Johnny and Berkley. After speaking earnestly about the joy that her dogs bring her and her family, Charlies adds emphatically, "They're strays, and they look weird, but they're so beautiful. You don't need a purebred dog." Amen! #AdoptDontShop
