We’re not usually into the “Wanna feel old?” meme, but this officially made us feel old: Reese Witherspoon’s daughter, Ava Phillippe, just turned 18. EIGHTEEN. We vividly remember when Reese and Ryan Phillippe were just two Cruel Intentions stars who married young and had babies young. And now those babies’ baby is legal and we are crying.
Anyway. Our geriatric status isn’t what’s important. What’s important is that Ava was officially introduced to society at le Bal des Débutantes on Saturday night in Paris. Wearing a jaw-dropping golden Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, Ava was escorted down the red carpet by proud mama Reese before linking arms with her date, 19-year-old Maharaja of Jaipur Padmanabh Singh (a friend of Prince William’s, natch).
Ava and Padmanabh enjoyed a perfectly-executed waltz together (both had been practicing for weeks), sweeping along the open floor of the opulent Peninsula Hotel.
The debutantes are selected from famous families who have made major contributions to the arts, politics, or business. The selection committee seeks young women with looks, brains, and prominent parents — oh, and “spoiled” children will not be considered.
The annual event has been held in Paris since 1992, and this year it included six Americans (including Steve Harvey’s daughter, Lori).
In previous years, other stars’ children have enjoyed the debutante dance, including the daughters of Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, and Annette Bening.
