Mandy Moore—back in the spotlight starring on This Is Us after a long hiatus from Hollywood, is revealing how she grew up in an unconventional family.
“I’ve never really talked about this,” she tells Byrdie, “but my parents are divorced. My mother left my father for a woman. And both of my two brothers are gay.”
It happened when she was out of her teens years, she says, so she did see some good between her parents.
“My parents loved each other; they did an incredible job raising all of us,” she says, adding that everyone is “exactly where they should be. Everyone’s so much happier, richer, and more fulfilled, being their authentic selves.”
Mandy got married herself at 24-years-old, to rocker Ryan Adams, to create her “own kind of normalcy.”
The two divorced earlier this year, with the actress saying, “I learned that that wasn’t going to be the fruitful experience I wanted it to be.”
“I feel like I’m a 62-year-old in a 32-year-old’s body,” she says, of having gone through so much at such a young age. “Oh god, I was just a clueless suburban mall teenager from Orlando. “You couldn’t pay me to go back.”
She says of the aging process now, “bring it on.”
