Now There's a Totally Legit Way to Crash Pools at Fancy Hotels Without Staying There

No room key, no problem.

We could use a vacation. I mean we could really use a vacation... pretty much by Friday every single week (or hell, by Wednesday, actually). But weekly vacations out of town — or even staycations at fancy, spendy hotels — aren't exactly in the cards as a sustainable financial practice for most people.

So wouldn't it be great if you could crash a fancy hotel pool pretty much whenever you wanted — without having to actually book a room? Well, score — because now you can.

That's thanks to a new app called DayAxe, which lets guests in certain areas book some time by the pool at some of he most luxurious hotels around town. It's like pool crashing, but without the need to dodge security guards who might be inclined to check room keys.

For example, if you're near Los Angeles and would love a little beach-adjacent pool time at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, day passes are available for $20 a day — and that includes access to the hotel’s spa and gym, Exhale! Hi, that's way cheaper than a single SoulCycle class.

Other hotel day passes, such as the Westin Mission in Palm Springs start at just $10 a day.

To do it, you just go online, and book your hotel day pass, cabana, daybed, or a spa pass. You will get a confirmation and your ticket emailed to you. Then, check in at the hotel as you would normally, and you’ll get a specific type of room key (that doesn’t actually open any rooms), and it’s yours for the day. This is also a great option if you are working and looking for a posh business lounge to make your office for the day.

Right now the service is only available in four Southern California markets: Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and Palm Springs, but the company hopes to spread to 40 major metro markets over the next 12 months, and internationally by late 2018.
