We're sending a big, glittering mazel to RuPaul who revealed this week that he's married. The drag superstar and his longtime love, Georges LeBar, secretly wed back in January. "I've never said this on television before: we are married," the RuPaul's Drag Race host shared on Hollywood Live Today on Wednesday, according to E! News.
While Ru and Georges have been together for 23 years, they actually decided to marry for some really practical reasons. "We were looking into it really for tax breaks and financial things," he added. As the legend goes, Ru met his now-husband back in 1994 at one of New York City's most famous and legendary former hotspots, The Limelight, on Georges' birthday. Their wedding date took place on that fateful encounter's 23rd anniversary.
When Ru isn't slaying us hosting his VH1 series or just being fab on the daily, he lives a rather low-key life with his partner on a 50,000-acre ranch in Wyoming. "He doesn't care about show business at all. He could care less," Ru added about his boo.
While the pair did tie the knot earlier this year, Ru previously scoffed at the idea of marriage. “No, I don’t stand on ceremony, I never want to conform to anything. We looked into it if we could get a tax break and stuff but not because… Is he devoted to me? Am I devoted to him? Oh, hell yes. [But] I never want to be like everybody else,” he told Buzzfeed in 2015.
While Georges is a bit mysterious, we do know some things about him, thanks to Ru. “He’s so kind and funny,” he said. “I remember praying, ‘I want a sweet, sensitive man,’ and I got an Australian who’s just lovely.”
