Officially being able to say goodbye to someone who once had an iron-like grip on your heart, is nearly impossible to do. You can mentally vow that you’ll stop answering their texts and delete their number from your phone, but there when there is a will, there is a way, and before you know it, you’ll devote 99 percent of your thoughts to thinking about that person.
If you’re looking for a couple of quick ways to get over your ex, here are three effective ways you can move on ASAP.
1. Block them on social media.
When we break up with someone, our will power to stop thinking about them can only go so far. One of the fastest ways to forget someone exists is to stop seeing them, offline and online. Block them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and even LinkedIn. If you don’t see their new posts pop up in your feed and you have no way of searching their profile, you won’t be able to keep track of their whereabouts anymore. Which means one thing and one thing only, you’ll start to care less about them and more about yourself.
2. Get a new time consuming hobby
Start crossing things off your life bucket list. Maybe you’ve always wanted to take a solo-backpacking trip across Europe or you wanted to learn how to play the drums but never had the time. Now you do. Pick up a new hobby, learn a new instrument or language, or volunteering at a local organization that peeks your interest. You’ll devote your free time to something more meaningful than thinking about someone who no longer has a place in your life anymore.
3. Write down a list of negatives
It’s easy to forget the bad moments or the qualities about a person that used to drive you crazy when you’re now missing them like crazy. Before you have the chance to paint a picture in your head that they were completely saint-like and you were the issue, write down all of the things about them that nag you and all of the times that made you cry. Keep this list close by and read it out loud, like your own personal riot act, when you start to think that working on getting back with them should become your new full-time job.
